Is the LG prosper "Android iPod Touch?" (ContributorNetwork)

Studies that show the iPhone and Android market share are missing an important fact: iPhone are not the only things that run iOS. He is also the iPod Touch, perennial favorite of adolescents, which is basically an iPhone without the phone.

He has been selling like hotcakes and Android did not thing. So far, it is!

Introduce the LG prosper

There were players Android-powered companies like Archos and Cowon media. They tend to be slow and clumsy, however, and the absence has taken for granted in the Android smartphones... as capacitive screens, multi-touch and the 150,000 apps in the Android market.

The LG prosper, however, is not only as an Android smartphone. It's an Android smartphone, for the price of an iPod Touch... $179 off-contract for prosper, compared to $229 for an iPod. Even if you throw in an additional MicroSD card for music (the prosper only comes with a 2 GB one), which is still cheaper than an iPod.

So what is the catch?

Well, first off is the difference between a deluxe MP3 player and a smartphone of budget. The prosper has a plastic there and buttons and is much thicker than shell chrome brilliant iPod. It can also run iPhone applications... and just as with Nintendo during the years of the Gamecube, the iPhone Exclusives are often better than anything on other phones.

In addition, interface for the iPod Touch and its applications are better reflected that of Android. If you have never used before, you'll spend less time accustomed to the iPod Touch and less time frustrated by it.

The LG prosper has a good side?

Yes! First of all, it is not just a music player. It is a phone that you can buy AT & T GoPhone plans. As little as $25 you'll get 500 MB of Internet access wireless 3 G for a month, and there cheaper plans, too (I chose to pay $15 100 MB). Prepaid voice minutes rollover for 90 days, or if you use rarely your phone you can just pay $2 on each day that you use.

Secondly, it has some of its own exclusives. Google Android apps tend to be better and more fully equipped that its applications for iPhone and iPod touch, more Amazon has a free "app" promotion of the day in its Appstore for Android. AT & T does not phones to buy apps from the Amazon store yet, but at appstoreaccess.com you can sign for AT & T to tell you when it's ready.

In many respects, the LG prosper is less of a "Android iPod Touch", and as the cheapest smartphone ever - same Huawei Cricket Ascend, available for $150 off-contract, costs more per month to use as a smartphone (and it is within the Cricket coverage areas). The fact that it runs Android is just one more, because this means that access to the Android market... and the freedom to upgrade to a more powerful phone later without losing all your applications.

The Verdict

If I has already a HTC Aria (which I've converted to a GoPhone), I would not everywhere the LG prosper. Even if I wanted a music player, I am tempted to it... but only because I am a fan of Android and customizable, open-source nature.

I would hesitate to recommend the LG prosper to someone else, just use it as a music player. But as a means of entry to participate the Android action, or to have real mobile Internet with incredibly cheap data plan, I would give a thumb-up.
