Downloads Baidu Chinese launch free legal music

More great search engine Chinese Baidu is preparing to offer a music legal free downloads, in a push by the company to move away from its reputation as a provider of pirated content.

The company will launch the service later this month, a spokesman said Thursday, without giving details of the service.

Baidu has long been criticized for offering an MP3 search which provides links to pirated music hosted on third party sites. The company commented on the search service what shape the existing MP3 will be.

The new service is called Ting, which means "listening" in English. Baidu said in the past that it is working on partnerships with agencies to provide downloads of music licensed for registration.

MP3 of Baidu search service has helped propel the company to the top, according to experts. The company currently has a 75.8% of Chinese search engine market share, with Google a distant second, according to research firm Analysys International Beijing-based.

The month last Baidu has taken an important step in addressing the concerns of piracy on its music services. He announced that he would begin to pay an agency representing songwriters for each music download MP3 search site. The payment would be however only allocated to compensate songwriters of words, but non-majors, said Baidu.

Analysts said that the move would improve the reputation of Baidu. Earlier this year, a report by the U.S. Government called a "notorious market" research giant to provide links to pirated songs.

Baidu is not the first to offer a service of free legal music in China. Rival of Baidu, Google has invested in a Chinese site called Top100.cn, which has signed partnerships with labels to provide music free downloads of songs licensed.
