HTC providing equipment for the phone Mobile Alliance operators

Smartphone maker High Tech Computer (HTC) have signed a memorandum of agreement Friday with a group of Asian telecom service providers which will be jointly purchase equipment for the mobile Internet of the Taiwanese company.

The group, called Conexus Mobile Alliance, consists of 11 mobile carriers who have together 310 million customers.

Joint purchases will help keep smartphone low prices, said Alison Kao, far Eastone spokeswoman, Member of carrier and Taiwanese alliance. Companies are also seeking the benefits of collaboration in the field of design.

"If someone is a custom design, we can consider making a similar," said Kao.

A statement of the alliance Friday did not specify the type or amount of material that HTC would sell to them. CONEXUS and HTC were not available for comment on the arrangement between them.

The agreement will bring HTC more business in the field of mobile data, a declaration of Conexus said, citing a HTC General Deputy Director for Asia.

HTC makes mobile phones and tablets. It is the first manufacturer of smartphone to sign a contract of this kind with the alliance, according to reports.

CONEXUS members include major operators like NTT DoCoMo's Japan, Hutchison Telecommunications in Hong Kong and PT Indosat the Indonesia.

HTC has reported an increase of 174.5% in first revenue quarter over the same period last year. It shipped 24.67 million units last year, which won 7.1% of the world market smartphone, according to the IDC research firm.

Mobile carriers have formed the alliance in 2006 to enhance the voice and data roaming for their clients.
