BEIJING- the number of people killed in an explosion in a plant to Foxconn in China, reportedly in a building where iPad Apple 2 was made, if student three Sunday after the death of a critically injured worker, says media.
Two workers were initially killed and 16 wounded in the explosion Friday evening at a subsidiary of Foxconn plant in Chengdu, capital of the province of Sichuan in southwestern China, according to the official news agency Xinhua.
An initial investigation indicated that the explosion could have been caused by combustible dust in polishing workshop, he said, adding that investigators had ruled out the possibility of sabotage.
Operations in the workshop and the other sections of the plant with similar processes have been suspended for further investigation and security checks, Xinhua quoted a spokesman for Hongfujin (Chengdu) Precision Electronics Co. Ltd. said.
Hongfujin is a subsidiary of Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn manufacturer most of computer components which manufactures items for Apple, Sony and Nokia.
The journal of the economic observer, has said that the iPad 2 became the building affected by the explosion.
This is the latest incident to hit the crenellated Foxconn, after the death of at least 13 of its employees in apparent suicides last year, activists blame on the difficult working conditions.
Foxconn employs about one million workers in China, almost half of them based in its main facilities in the South of the city of Shenzhen.
Foxconn has expanded its staff in other parts of China that it seeks to scale to the size of its plant in Shenzhen.
The company opened the Chengdu plant two billion in October last year, according to Xinhua.
