Sony rolls on theft protection free identity codes (Yahoo! News)

As promised when it became obvious that its PlayStation Network problems are due to a massive breach of customer information, Sony has opened a registration Web site for free protection against identity theft. The service is provided by Debix, a firm of identity theft protection that offers free and paid security ID levels. Sony's PSN users are treated to a level premium service free of charge.

Cyber attack that made the PlayStation Network, music by Qriocity and Sony Online Entertainment compromise falling services account in addition to 100 million users information. Details such as the customer name, address, telephone number and birthday were obtained by a third party not authorized. In addition, information from user name and password was also missed, which prompted Sony to require a change of password immediately when the services were finally to life.

Sony remains adamant that no cases of identity theft have been reported in association with the attacks, but the fact that such a wealth of information has been released means that precautions must be taken. If you are one of millions of people with an account compromise, be sure to quickly head to the registration site and start your free year of protection.
