Summary box: Twitter buys TweetDeck

THE DEAL: Twitter bought TweetDeck, a London-based startup that helps people to read, write and organize short messages displayed on the network online. He will keep the render service.

Money: Twitter declined to give financial terms. Published reports have pressed the price to about 40 million to $ 50 million.

WHAT IS IN IT FOR TWITTER? TweetDeck is the home for a number of so-called "power-users of Twitter", celebrities, companies and other more frequent and the most influential contributors. Debra Aho Williamson, senior analyst at the eMarketer, said Twitter needed to ensure that these users are "stay in the fold" - and see their announcements.
