SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Sony Monday reported that cyber attacks on its network of online video games have been wider than first thought, with getting away from credit and debit card data with intruders.
Hackers breached network Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and the PlayStation Network and the Qriocity continuous flow of music, according to Japanese consumer electronic giant.
"We thought before that data of customers of Sony Online Entertainment had not been obtained in cyber attacks on society," he said in an update online.
"But, on 1 may, we concluded that the SOE account information were stolen and we advise you as soon as possible."
Engineers and security consultants to investigate on the PlayStation Network breach discovered evidence that the information has been stolen 24.6 million accounts SOE and obsolete database containing financial data of the people.
About 12,700 credit or debit card numbers, with expiration dates, belonging to persons outside of United States were stolen with 10 700 records for direct debit from customers in Austria, Germany, Netherlands and the Spain, according to Sony.
"We will be notifying each of these clients quickly," he said.
The 2007 database and stolen information included numbers of bank account and the names and addresses of clients, according to Sony.
"There is no evidence that our primary credit card database was compromised", SOE said in an update to users. "It is in a completely separate and secured environment."
SOE, based in the city South of San Diego California, is a network for users to take part in massive multiplayer games like "everquest" or "star wars Galaxies" online using personal computers.
The SOE network was closed after the discovery of the violation of data.
Sony believed that SOE did violate not in an onslaught of cyber on its PlayStation and Qriocity network streaming music service online.
In a press conference Sunday unusual, Sony executives bowed in apology and said that the company will begin to restore its PlayStation Network and Qriocity next week.

PlayStation Network connects consoles PlayStation 3 (PS3) for online games, movies and more.
The players were still able to participate in the games offline on consoles, but has lost the ability to challenge other Internet films of water courses, or obtain other services.
PlayStation Network launched in November 2006 and has approximately 77 million registered worldwide users.
Sony has not indicated if he identified a culprit of the intrusion.
