Motorola spills details of gingerbread update Droid

An employee of Motorola, said Droid phones 2.2 current Android (Froyo), will be updated to Android 2.3 (gingerbread) - by the third quarter of the year as long as Verizon gives him the green light.

In response to questions from eager customers on Support of Motorola forum, an employee responded that the company "cannot provide exact dates".

"I can say that the Droid X update is scheduled to be released before the end of the second quarter of this year or earlier." Other updates are currently scheduled to be released before the end of the third quarter or early. ?

"The estimates above are dependent on Verizon approving updates to OTA (fil)," the spokesman continued.

Last year Motorola has launched a number of phones Droid by Verizon Wireless, including the Droid X in June, the Droid 2 August and World 2 Droid and Droid Pro in November. Currently, all run Android 2.2.

Build of latest Google Android OS, Android 2.3 gingerbread, began in December on the smartphone Samsung Nexus s. Motorola Droid users, as of many other Android device holders, have therefore naturally been wondering when they receive a gingerbread.

Add to their frustration, Motorola and Verizon launch the Droid X 2 with Froyo in stores on Thursday.

Now, discussing fragmentation Android is like beating a horse dead, particularly after the Samsung/Froyo controversy in mid-January, but is consumers reap the benefits? According to Google, at the end of April only 4.3% of Android users used 2.3 Android for six months and more.
