SK Tel, KT suspend iPad 2 online sale less than a week after the debut (Reuters)

Seoul (Reuters) - top two telecoms operators the South Korea SK Telecom and KT Corp said Tuesday that selling online tablet, popular iPad 2 Apple because of tight supplies, less than a week after that, they launched the sale was suspended.

"Our inventory iPad 2 has been exhausted and we apologize for failing to provide enough supplies due to global supply shortages of the product", SK Telecom said in a message posted on his Web site.

The companies declined to reveal sales.

Apple has sold iPads just under 5 million in the quarter to March from the estimates of up to 6 million, as the transition to a new model and Japanese supply chain tangles triggered shortages of critical components.

Apple has launched the new version of iPad Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and eight other countries last week after it is sold in the US market in March.

Korean telecom operators bet heavily on Tablet PC and smartphone sales to offset weak growth in revenues for voice traffic.

Also, SK Telecom Tuesday announced record investment of 2.3 billion won ($2.2 billion) plan to manage the explosion of data resulting from the popularity of smartphones soaring.
