Time Inc. iPad gives free access to subscribers of print (PC World)

Time Inc. has obtained an agreement with Apple to be bundle iPad free access for print subscribers, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. If you have a print subscription in time, Sports Illustrated and fortune, you can log in to the publications iPad versions and obtain electronic editions for free today.

So far, Apple did not allow publishers to consolidate the print subscriptions, so users of Time Inc. titles (except individuals) had to pay extra to get printed magazines iPad editions. But the new deal will allow print subscribers log in with their credentials in apps iPad of time Inc. and download titles free of charge (it is still business as usual for digital subscribers).

Apple releases Grip on iPad subscriptions

The details of the agreement of the time with Apple Inc. are still not clear, but it is a relaxation of the policy of Apple. Under the terms initial, subscribers had to use the Apple subscription system to register for an Edition iPad from a publication (via the app purchases), allowing Apple to keep the 30 per cent of revenue and control of user information.

This has led to most of the magazines selling individual issues within their iPad applications, most often at prices higher than their print counterparts. In this context, the deal Time Inc. with Apple to enable the free print subscriber access to the iPad editions is a positive step, in Apple relaxation of the rules for publishers, allowing greater flexibility.

But the agreement with time is not yet near the end of the story. Apple and publishers still have room to talk to distribute information on subscribers, an important part of how publications monetize readership; and we still have to see if other major publishers will play ball with the rules of Apple or try reject cut 30% of Apple just sold in the App store.
